Saul Canelo Alvarez is one of the best boxers of our time (or even in the history of boxing), formerly the number one ranking outside of weight categories in the recent past, holder of belts in four divisions, and he fought in five. He has an incredible 65 fights on his record, with only two defeats. The loss to Bivol slightly diminished Alvarez's superstar shine, but the key word here is slightly.

In his last fight, Saul beat undefeated Jaime Munguia (43-0-0) by unanimous decision.

We'll never know exactly why Berlanga got the chance of a lifetime (there are lots and lots of boxers of his caliber). Perhaps partly because he has no defeats in the pros yet, and a serious amateur school under his belt.

In his first sixteen fights, Edgar knocked out his opponents in the first round, which allowed him (in his opinion) to boldly condemn some of Canelo's achievements.

Edgar Berlanga has won most of his victories by knockout, and in his last fight he finished Padraig McCrory (18-0-0).

Berlanga's only chance of beating Alvarez is to knock him out, and that chance honestly looks more than utopia. At the distance, however, he won't have that microscopic opportunity either. The longer the fight goes on, the more likely it will be that the American will break under Canelo's own pressure and get finished. He simply doesn't have the arguments to counter anything with Alvarez's technique, school and experience.

And if Berlanga had shown a little more respect for the champion, the champ would probably have fought him for his own good. But now he's angry, hurt by his opponent's words and intends to punish him severely. And when Canelo is on edge, it doesn't promise anything pleasant for his opponent.
