Top Thursday Matches: Accumulator Tip for January 16

Crucial Thursday night will see top sides go head to head against one another. While Manchester United will look to secure a league win over struggling Southampton, Anderlecht will hope to take advantage of their turf against Antwerp in the first leg of the semifinals of the Belgian Cup. While Bangkok United continue their title chase, they will be away from home against Uthai Thani. I will do a proper match analysis of each game and provide the best bets. 

Uthai Thani vs Bangkok Utd

Uthai Thani will look to end their struggling run, but this is tough for them. While Bangkok Utd struggled towards the end of 2024, the visiting team started 2025 on a positive note, and this game is a chance to close the odds with the league-leading Buriram. However, one of the major weaknesses of the two teams this season has been defensive issues, and I do not see this changing in this fixture. As the better side, I am confident Bangkok United will not lose, and with this game expected to feature many offensive games, a bet on goals is another option.

Anderlecht vs Antwerp

These are two teams working hard not to go trophyless, as their chances of winning the league are far from slim. Anderlecht at home should take this game more seriously, especially following a run of poor league games that saw them go winless recently. While Antwerp have been good at avoiding defeat, it is still tough to back them winning despite humiliating Union Saint-Gilloise in the quarterfinal of this game. This is a crucial game, but it is up to the team to approach it early. Yet, with a chance in the second half, I do not see either team winning easily. Therefore, an offensive approach is expected in a game that could end with a close score, hence, a bet on both teams scoring.

Manchester United vs Southampton

The Manchester United team under Ruben Amorim have not had things easy and taking up the weakest side in the league is the best they could get to turn things around. While United head into this game with a winless run of games in the English Premier League, their last two matches have shown a glimpse of hope, and I expect them to show their class. On the road, Southampton have not won a game since their EFL Cup victory over Southampton in September, and they have a big task against a United Amorim side with much to prove. While Southampton have not been a threat to any side, their weak defensive performance will also be a big job to deal with. This should be an easy job at Old Trafford, and I will bet them to win with two goals.
