Yet their attacking intent was clear in what was their 13 corners, which they failed to turn into goals. On defence, they were fine, limiting Gimnasia to only one shot on target in the entire game. In the final third, however, inefficiency proved their undoing, and they will have to improve on their finishing to stand any chance against River Plate.

Both teams come into this match having gotten robbed by dour draws in which they had the measure of possession but not finish. Lanús’ volume of attacking plays, River Plate’s ability to dictate play and press high, could cause problems for Lanús, and vice versa. The most important fight will be in the middle of the pitch, where River Plate is set up to primarily keep the ball and Lanús tend to attack openly. In their last matches however, both have been dominant in possession, but they were struggling with producing a clear cut chance to kill the game.
