The expectation, on the back of their fine season in the Premier League, was that Luton would take very little time to get accustomed to life in the EFL and find a place in the top half of the table. However, it is now up to Rob Edwards to rally a side that has not tasted victory in four successive outings in all competitions, netting just twice during this time.

Though they have improved from that initial 4-1 home defeat to Burnley, credit is due to Luton, who, despite being a man down in the first half following the sending off of their goalkeeper, still held Portsmouth to a goalless draw. They then lost 1-0 at Preston North End and drew 1-1 at QPR in the EFL Cup before losing 4-1 in the penalty shootout.

He still has the backing of the Kenilworth Road faithful, but how much longer Luton can keep Edwards at the helm remains up in the air. For that reason, it is vital for Luton to win a game soon, better this Friday, that would hoist them at least to 12th place in the table.

Shea; Mengi, McGuinness, Bell; Ogbene, Baptiste, Clark, Doughty; Morris, Chong; Adebayo

QPR have surged into a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions, which has included progress beyond two rounds of the EFL Cup. They are still awaiting their first Championship win of the season, however, despite earning a share of the spoils with one of those points coming from an eventful comeback against Sheffield United.

These have been compounded by their latest setbacks at Loftus Road: a 3-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion and the inability to make the most of their lead against Plymouth Argyle to go away frustrated by a 1-1 draw. QPR's defense has been an issue as well since they have let a goal in each of their last five matches and have scored in each of those.

Nardi; Dunne, Cook, Clarke-Salter, Paal; Madsen, Field; Smyth, Dembele, Saito; Frey

Given the quick turnaround and the fact that Edwards rang a raft of changes for the EFL Cup outing, expect him to put out a similar Luton XI that played against Preston. McGuiness would likely come back into the back three and Walsh-who has been a sub in two straight-could get a start. The probable starter in that position in the lineup, Nakamba, got his first minutes of the campaign last time out, so he'll most probably sit this out.

He will have to decide whether to deploy Madsen or Colback in midfield, but the latter is now back in contention after serving a suspension. Field and Frey are set to be restored to midfield and attack respectively having been unused substitutes in the EFL Cup. All things said, though, both Luton and QPR want an important victory, each of them facing different kinds of challenges and with chances to breathe differently in this campaign.

The Hatters will be looking at home again in the Kenilworth Road that might just prove to be a turning factor in the match. QPR will make it difficult, but Luton is likely to win a hard-tackling match.
