Freiburg are in high spirits ahead of their clash against St. Pauli. Fresh off a 3-1 away victory over France's OGC Nice in the fourth round of the UEFA Europa League - league phase, they will aim to build on this momentum to return to winning ways in the Bundesliga.
It has been nothing but a dreadful display from Julian Schuster's men, who have yet to taste victory in their last five matches (D4, L1). A lack of cutting edge in the final third last time out against Union Berlin resulted in them sharing the spoils in a goalless draw on the road.
Despite their struggles, home support has been a contributing factor to their success this season. At the Europa-Park Stadion, they have gone five matches without a defeat across all competitions, recording three wins and two draws. Their last two league games ended in draws against Hoffenheim and Eintracht Frankfurt, highlighting that they are a difficult team to beat at this venue.

FC St. Pauli: Form and Statistics
Form: LLLLL
FC St. Pauli have recorded two wins in their last nine league games. This currently sees them involved in a relegation dogfight, and there's a good chance they could find themselves in the bottom two when the day draws to an end on Sunday - something they are trying to avoid.
To say Alexander Blessin's men have struggled with inconsistency in the Bundesliga this season would be an understatement for a side that actually finds itself in a crisis. They have lost six consecutive matches and are low on motivation. The reason behind their struggles has been well-reported, and it has to do with their shortcomings in the final third as they failed to score in five of those outings.
The positive thing that has emerged from their performance in the past weeks is their 8-7 penalty win over Hoffenheim in the second round of the DFB Pokal. After that result, they went on to suffer a 4-0 home drubbing at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga, who at the time were a relegation-threatened side languishing at the bottom of the table.
FC St. Pauli: Team News
FC St. Pauli have three players in the injury room, including Adam Dzwigala, David Nemeth, and Ricky-Jade Jones. Arkadiusz Pyrka will also sit this one out this Sunday as he is recovering from an illness.
Despite suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach, head coach Alexander Blessin still has faith in that starting lineup and is unlikely to make any changes. We could see a 3-4-1-2 formation with Oladapo Afolayan and Mathias Pereira Lage leading the attack. Surprisingly, neither of them has been able to find the back of the net this season.
The team's top goalscorer this season is Andreas Hountondji (on loan from Burnley) with three goals to his name. He is likely to be introduced as a substitute when the going gets tough.
🔖 Probable Starting XI (3-4-1-2): Vasilj; Mets; Smith, Wahl; Oppie, Fujita, Sands, Saliakas; Sinani; Pereira Lage, Afolayan.
⛔️ Out: Adam Dzwigala (muscle injury), David Nemeth (groin injury), Ricky-Jade Jones (shoulder injury), Arkadiusz Pyrka (illness).
👤 Head coach: Alexander Blessin.

Freiburg vs FC St. Pauli Match Prediction 09 November 2025
Freiburg should have no excuse for returning to winning ways in the Bundesliga as they take on a FC St. Pauli side that has been in poor form. I'm confident they can do exactly that, especially at home, where they've gone five matches without defeat. I expect them to control the game from start to finish. It's possible we could see a couple of goals being scored, leading to a high-scoring affair.
However, I don't see FC St. Pauli getting on the scoreboard in this one, given their struggles in the final third. For a side that has failed to score in four consecutive league games, getting on the scoreboard here will definitely be an arduous task, let alone snatching three points.
