Starting with the hosts, Kuala Lumpur City made their first appearance in the Malaysia FA Cup final for the first time since 1999 as they were pitted against league leaders Johor Darul Tazim. Unfortunately for them, they came short of clinching their fourth title in this competition as goals from Hong Wan and Leandro Velázquez saw them succumb to a 2:0 defeat, limiting them to a runners-up status.

In the league, they played host to Negeri Sembilan FC at the KLFA Stadium, where, despite being favorites to claim all three points, they ended up sharing the spoils after playing out a 1:1 draw. Colombian forward Romel Morales put his side ahead in the 40th minute, and just when it seemed the three points were theirs for the taking, they found themselves conceding a goal in second-half stoppage time courtesy of a Zainal Abidin Jamil strike.

That draw has seen them go without a win in their last four matches in the league, picking up three draws and a morale-crushing 6:1 loss to Johor Darul Ta'zim away from home. However, that shouldn't dampen their mood coming into this clash, as they are currently unbeaten in their last six home matches, where three draws and three wins have been recorded, and with this fine run of form, it could serve as a confidence booster to see them get back to winning ways against minnows Kelantan FC.

They presently occupy seventh place with 25 points, level on points with Terengganu FC in sixth place, while behind them they have maintained a two-point lead over PDRM FC in eighth place.

As for the visitors, their dream in the Malaysia FA Cup was short-lived, losing 4:2 to Terengganu FC at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium. The last time they won the Malaysia FA Cup trophy was in 2013, when they beat Johor Darul Ta'zim 1:0 courtesy of Nor Farhan Muhammad's lone goal in the fifteenth minute to make it their second in a row.

In the league, they made the trip to Sarawak State Stadium to lock horns with Kuching City FC, where they managed to salvage a crucial point despite being labeled underdogs. Muhammad Hafizan bin Ghazali put his side ahead in the opening four minutes, but his efforts would turn out to be in vain as the opposition equalized in the 58th minute to be down a goal in the 68th minute, but with a burning desire to walk away with a positive result too great to extinguish, they leveled matters in the 79th minute through Natanael Siringoringo's strike.

That draw was indeed a positive result for Choi Moonsik's men, but at the same time, it was yet another unfavorable outcome as this extended their winless run to fourteen matches, where twelve losses and two draws have been recorded, a poor form that is beyond repair as relegation will be the likeliest end result to befall them when all is said and done.

They presently occupy fourteenth place with five points in the relegation zone and are only two points behind safety, but they claim all three points will be at the top of their agenda list.

  • Kuala Lumpur City FC have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight consecutive matches in the Super League.
  • Kelantan FC have lost nine of their last ten away matches in the Super League.
  • Kuala Lumpur City FC averages 1.56 goals per game when playing at home, and Kelantan FC averages 1.1 goals per game when playing away.

In the last six meetings, Kuala Lumpur City FC have won once, Kelantan FC have won three times, and there have been two draws, with the goal difference being 12-10 in favor of Kelantan FC.

Kuala Lumpur City FC have no excuse not to get back to winning ways as they take on bottom-table dwellers Kelantan FC, who have shown close to nothing with their performance this season.

Despite not boasting the upper hand in the head-to-head meetings, Kuala Lumpur City FC still remain the better side on paper, and with a chance to make amends for their stuttering performance, their victory here is not one to be doubted.

However, we are also inclined to think that the visitors will likely breach a Kuala Lumpur City FC defense that has failed to keep a clean sheet in eight consecutive matches, which makes 'both teams score - yes' the main pick for this entertaining affair that's likely to be a high-scoring bonanza.

  • Both Teams To Score - Yes for 1.84
