Mexico vs Colombia: Prediction for the Match on October 12, 2025

The Mexico national football team is ready to play Colombia in a friendly match at AT&T Stadium. This match is sure to be fun. El Tri just won the Concacaf Gold Cup by beating the US. Since then, they've only been able to tie two games, one against Japan and one against South Korea. Mexico will have to play very well in their next game to win.

Mexico is automatically qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup because it is co-hosting the event with the United States and Canada. It has not had to go through the World Cup qualifiers. They've played a lot of friendlies and taken part in both the CONCACAF Nations League and the Gold Cup in the meantime. Their results in friendly matches have been hit or miss, but they have done well in the Nations League and Gold Cup. In June, Mexico won their first Nations League trophy, which was a big deal. In the semifinals, they beat Canada 2-0, and in the finals, they beat Panama 2-1. They won the Gold Cup soon after, beating Saudi Arabia 2-0 in the quarter-finals, Honduras 1-0 in the semi-finals, and then coming from behind to beat the USA 2-1 in the final. But they couldn't keep up the good work in their last two friendlies, which ended in ties with Japan and South Korea. El Tricolor is eager to get back to winning, starting with the game against Colombia on Sunday. After that, Mexico will play Ecuador, and in November, they will play Uruguay and Paraguay.

Raul Jimenez scored the most goals for Mexico in both of their cup wins, three in the Gold Cup and five in the Nations League. But the striker is not in the squad for these friendlies because he is hurt. Edson Alvarez is also out. He just came back to play for Fenerbahce after getting hurt while playing for Mexico during the September international break. Santiago Gimenez of AC Milan will probably lead the attack without Jimenez, with Hirving Lozano and German Berterame helping him out. Marcel Ruiz, Erik Lira, and Erick Sanchez could all be important players in the middle of the field.

🔖 Mexico Expected Lineup

Rangel; J Sanchez, Montes, Vasquez, Chavez; E Sanchez, Lira, Ruiz; Berterame, Gimenez, Lozano

The main group that helped Colombia qualify for the 2026 World Cup has been called up. David Ospina, Davinson Sanchez, Yerry Mina, James Rodriguez, and Luis Diaz are all in this group. There are also some new players, like Cucho Hernandez, Yaser Asprilla, and Rafael Santos Borre, who are all in the running. Colombia is in good shape after finishing third in the CONMEBOL qualification campaign with seven wins, seven draws, and four losses. They've won their last nine international friendlies, including games against Germany and Mexico in December 2023.

James Rodriguez has been an important player for the Colombian national football team for a long time. He is one of Los Cafeteros' most dependable players because he is always the same. Rodriguez can do everything, from controlling the midfield to scoring goals. Luis Suarez, who scored four goals in Colombia's 6-3 win over Venezuela, could be the forward, with Rodriguez and Diaz starting on the wings. In the middle, Jefferson Lerma could work with Richard Rios and Kevin Castano, while Sanchez and Mina make up the central defense.

🔖 Colombia Expected Lineup

Mier; Munoz, Mina, Sanchez, Angulo; Rios, Lerma, Castano; Rodriguez, Suarez, Diaz

Both sides, Mexico and Colombia, has faced each other 34 times with Mexico coming with the highest margin of winnings. The home side has won 14 times, Colombia has won 10 while both sides has shared 10 ties.

  • Mexico's last two games ended in ties: one against South Korea (2-2) and one against Japan (0-0). This means they haven't lost in nine games, with six wins and three ties. However, their recent performance in friendlies hasn't been as good, with only one win in their last five (W1, D2, L2).
  • Mexico is using these friendlies to get ready for the 2026 World Cup, where they will be a co-host. Colombia, on the other hand, earned their spot by finishing third in CONMEBOL qualification, with seven wins and only four losses.
  • Six of Colombia’s last nine matches saw over 2.5 goals. In fact, four of their last five international friendlies featured at least three goals.
  • Mexico, too, has seen high-scoring games, with two of their last three matches producing three or more goals. The last two friendlies between Mexico and Colombia each ended with five goals. Mexico enters this clash on a nine-game winning streak in international friendlies.

El Tri will have a hard time, but Los Cafeteros are ready to fight back. Colombia has the upper hand because Mexico's star striker Jimenez is out with an injury. We think Los Cafeteros will win this friendly match by a small margin because they have done well in their last few games.
