Spain vs England Prediction: England eye first European trophy

On the final day of Euro 2024, Spain will play England at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. This is an action-packed encounter, and we look forward to both sides playing their best game. Which nation lifts the trophy?

After an impressive run of games in this Euro 2024, Spain seeks their fourth-ever European trophy in Germany. In the group stage, this team finished at the top of their group, winning each encounter as they defeated Croatia, Italy, and Albania. However, this team got four past Georgia in the knockout stage as they came from behind to win big against the debutants. Yet, their journey saw Germany in the quarterfinals as Mikel Merino had a late goal in the last minute of extra time to send them into the semis. 

Against 2018 world champions France in the semifinal, Spain needed a comeback win to cancel their opponent’s lead, thanks to 16-year old Lamine Yamal, who struck from outside the box before Jules Kounde's deflected goal saw Dani Olmo score his third goal of this tournament. Heading into this game, La Roja will look to keep their perfect win record here, and we can expect them to be at the top level. 

England

The Three Lions seek their first European title, and they will head into this final hoping they can rewrite their story after losing to Italy in the 2020 Euro final. Gareth Southgate ended their group stage encounters with just one win, coming against Serbia in their opening encounter and then drew Denmark and Slovenia in subsequent matches. This team had a poor record in the group stage games as they scored just two goals, but enough to see them finish top of the group ahead of Denmark, which finished second with 3 points. 

In the knockout phase, the Three Lions needed a Jude Bellingham acrobatic goal to level the scores in the last minute to force the game into extra time before Harry Kane scored early to send them to the quarterfinals. In the meantime, a Manuel Akanji penalty miss in the shootout was what this team needed to send themselves to the semifinal after a 1-1 draw after extra time. 

Against the Netherlands in the semifinal, we witnessed the best performance of England as Harry Kane scored from the spot to level the scores for them after Xavi Simons had put their opponents in the lead. Yet, England still needed a late-minute strike to secure their final spot, thanks to Ollie Watkins's powerful strike. Ahead of this final, England conceded first in their last three matches in the Euro, a run they won’t want to repeat itself.
