The Romanian team did well in the main stage of the Europa League, finishing 11th and only one point behind the top eight. FCSB had to play the knockout matches, but even in them the team of the Cypriot specialist Elias Haralambous confirmed its high class. Steaua twice beat Greek PAOK Magomed Ozdoyev and Fyodor Chalov and had no problem getting through to the round of 16 - 2:1 away, 2:0 at home.

Despite the European Cup success, now Lyon have a new head coach - Paulo Fonseca, who was fired from AC Milan earlier this season.

The reason for the coaching reshuffle - not the most successful interim result in the French championship. Under Fonseca, Lyon won three out of five matches in Ligue 1, including a 2:1 win over Brest at home last round, but are still only in sixth position in the league standings. The gap from the top-4, the Champions League competition, is four points.
