After the 2014 U.S. Open, Fitzpatrick decided to turn pro and give up his exemption to the 2014 Open Championship. After making his professional debut at the 2014 Irish Open, he received invitations to participate in a number of tournaments on both the European Tour and the Challenge Tour. At The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, in June 2022, he won his first major championship by a single shot. He became only the second man golfer in history, after Jack Nicklaus, to win both the U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur at the same course. After a playoff with Jordan Spieth in April 2023, Fitzpatrick emerged victorious and claimed the RBC Heritage title.

As of September 2015, Jason Day was ranked first in the world in the World Golf Ranking. After finishing as the runner-up at the 2011 U.S. Open, Day entered the top ten for the first time. Day won the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in February 2014 for the first time in his career and again in 2016. He became only the third player in WGC Match Play history to win the tournament multiple times, joining Tiger Woods and Geoff Ogilvy. He shot a tournament record of 20 shots under par to win the 2015 PGA Championship, propelling him to third place in the global rankings.
