Iga Swiatek remains the number 1 contender for the gold medal, so she is expected to go further into the tournament. But up next for her in the round of 16 is Xinyu Wang. Iga Swiatek’s tournament has gone as expected so far. She had an opening match win against Irina-Camelia Begu, beating her in straight sets by a 6-2,7-5 score. Afterwards, she played against Diane Parry in the second round and she won again in straight sets by 6-1,6-1.
Xinyu Wang
Xinyu Wang has been fantastic so far in the tournament and despite ranking in 52nd place, she had kept her place in the tournament until the round of 16. XInyu Wang will now face arguably the toughest opponent in the tournament, Iga Swiatek, and the odds are terribly against her.
Xinyu Wang got her first win against Linda Noskova in the round of 64. She defeated Linda in straight sets by a 3-6,3-6 score. Afterwards, she progressed into the second round where she defeated Diane Shnaider in straight sets (6-3,6-1).
