Australia enters round three of the Rugby Championship in second place after an impressive win in South Africa. Since the British & Irish Lions series, the Wallabies have shown great improvement under Joe Schmidt and will aim to continue that progress on home soil. In round one, Australia seemed to be overwhelmed at Ellis Park, with South Africa racing to a 22-0 lead. However, the Wallabies showed remarkable composure and quality to fight back, capitalizing on South Africa's mistakes and excelling in counter-attacking.
In the second test, despite wet weather in Cape Town, Australia matched South Africa in physicality and set pieces. They lost 30-22, missing out on a losing bonus point, but will draw confidence from the performance. Some may feel they were unlucky to lose, as they had a few unfortunate moments and decisions go against them. Back in Australia, the Wallabies will look to continue their momentum against a strong but inconsistent Argentina side. Argentina will present a different challenge, but Australia will need to rise to it and possibly play with less possession.

Argentina will be confident heading into this match after bouncing back from a disappointing first game against the All Blacks to win 29-23 at home. The main challenge for Los Pumas has been their inconsistency. While they have the quality to compete with and beat top sides, they often fail to perform on the day. Last season in the Rugby Championship, Australia and Argentina each won one game in their two meetings. In the first match, Argentina were dominant but allowed Australia to make a late comeback and win. A week later, Argentina responded with a dominant 60-point victory. In their second match against New Zealand, Argentina controlled the aerial battle, which helped them gain ground and pressure the All Blacks into errors, capitalizing on those mistakes.

Santiago Carreras remains at fly-half for Argentina, continuing in place of the injured Tomas Albornoz. Pablo Matera moves to number eight, with Marcos Kremer coming in at flanker. Geronimo Prisciantelli and Boris Wenger could make their debuts from the bench.
