Kasatkina wasn't likely to participate in this competition, but given her recent setbacks, it makes sense.
In Cincinnati and Toronto, Daria did not get past the first round. She chose to compete in Granby for this reason, realizing how crucial it is to play at least a few more matches before the US Open.
Daria was instantly defeated by Bianca Andreescu in Toronto (6-7, 4-6). Amanda Anisimova stopped her in Cincinnati (4-6, 4-6). Although Kasatkina faced challenging opponents, an entirely different outcome was anticipated.
Daria won the competition in San Jose at the beginning of August, defeating Shelby Rogers, Paula Badosa, Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and Aryna Sabalenka.
Greet Minnen
Minnen, on the other hand, has recently been unable to brag. She hasn't received a victory yet this month.
Greet was defeated by Kaia Kanepi (3-6, 3-6) in the Citi Open first round at the beginning of August. Shortly after, she was defeated by Katie Volynets at the Thoreau Tennis Open (4-6, 7-5, 4-6).
But there was one good thing that happened. Minnen stunned Garbine Muguruza in the first round of Wimbledon in late June. A defeat to Zheng Qinwen followed.
Minnen is winless this year in WTA main draw matches on hard courts.
