Diego Schwartzman vs Casper Ruud Prediction: Diego has to Improve

That was an unsuccessful start to the season. Just recently, Diego was the third or fourth clay-courters of the planet. And in 2023, he failed all matches on the clay: in Cordoba, Buenos Aires, Rio, and Santiago. At Indian Wells, Schwartzman played one game, winning in two sets over Coria. The match against Federico lasted an hour and 10 minutes. Diego won it very quickly, 6-1, 6-2. He made one ace and two doubles faults, winning 66% of first-serve points and 69% of second; reception stats: 53%/76%, winners/unforced errors 9/13.

Casper Ruud

After failing at the Australian Open, where he only made it to the second round, Ruud had one tournament in Acapulco, beating Andreozzi and losing to Daniel in three sets. His tonus is of concern, but Ruud has improved over the week. Schwartzman has become a comfortable match for Casper, as seen by the statistics of their head-to-head encounters. So Schwartzman isn't a bad way to start at the Masters.

Expert Betting Tips

Since 2021, Schwartzman has won three out of four faceoffs against Ruud, going 2-0 twice. In that time, Ruud has grown into a top five ATP ranking player and has been in the top 10 for a long time. Meanwhile, Diego has fallen out of the top 30 already and failed at the end of last season and the start of this one. It's enough to look at Diego's clay tournament results to understand his not doing well. Ruud had problems initially, but we expect him to play better in Indian Wells than in Melbourne and Acapulco. If he does well at the tournament, he may overtake Stefanos Tsitsipas in the rankings because the Greek is in even worse shape than Ruud.
