Leylah Annie Fernandez vs. Oceane Dodin Predictions: Fernandez Positive About an Easy Win

On Monday, August 29, world number 14 Leylah Fernandez will face 99th-ranked Oceane Dodin in the first round of the 2022 US Open.

A lot was expected of Fernandez this year after she reached the final of the 2021 US Open, but she has not been at her best. Her season record suggests she hasn't been far off the mark, but with 15 wins and 10 losses, it's hardly the type of performance you'd expect from a world number 14.

Fernandez also does not have a lot of form in the US Open Series.

Fernandez competed in two WTA 1000 events, in Canada and Cincinnati, and won only one round in both.

Beatriz Haddad Maia knocked Fernandez out in the second round of her home tournament, the Canadian Open. Then, in the opening in Cincinnati, Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated her in straight sets.

Both occasions, the Canadian had entered the contest as a heavy favourite.

She will try to put those performances behind her as she prepares to defend all of the points she earned by reaching the final last season.

Oceane Dodin

Dodin went on the court at the Sydney International relatively early in the season and won a main draw round as a fortunate loser. However, the Frenchwoman has not come close to doing so since then.

Dodin was eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open, failed to qualify for the WTA Dubai, and then lost in the first round of Doha.

She recently competed on the ITF circuit in Bronx, losing in the first round, and then repeating the outcome in the Granby Open.

Dodin will be a big second favourite heading into this one, despite having almost no experience on hard court surfaces.

While Fernandez would have like to be in better shape heading into the season's last Grand Slam, she should be able to blow Dodin away.
