After reaching Wimbledon's quarterfinals and losing to Rafael Nadal in a match many felt was his to lose, some of the wind seemed to have gone out of Fritz's sails.

Or so it appeared when he won his opening before losing the next match to Dan Evans at the Washington Open.

He fared better in the Canadian Open, defeating Andy Murray and Frances Tiafoe, but the American was no match for Dan Evans in the round of 16 for the second week in a row.

Frtiz appeared to have regained his stride at the Cincinnati Masters, when he defeated Nick Kyrgios and Andrey Rublev on way to the quarterfinals. In straight sets, he defeated Daniil Medvedev.

Fritz has proven that he can fight with some of the best players in the world, and a solid start here, along with some luck from the draw, might see him go far in a championship in which he has never advanced past round three.

Brandon Holt

Holt has finally made it to the main draw of a major after a lengthy journey. And he did it in style, winning three qualifying rounds in three sets each.

He defeated Alexandre Muller first, then Emilo Gomez, before edging past Dimitar Kuzmanov to secure his spot.

What makes this accomplishment even more remarkable is that Holt was frequently competing in Futures events until the first quarter of this season, and even joined a few tournaments on that circuit in May.

Five Futures championships appeared to have aided his advancement to the Challengers, and now he finds himself in the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time.
