Apple has announced the next generation in its smartphone line up, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, adding functions including pressure-sensitive touch navigation and 4K video recording.

The new iPhones support up to 23 LTE bands, which Apple boasts are the most for any smartphone. The devices are capable of operating over LTE-Advanced networks.

Introduced in the new smartphones is the 3D Touch feature, which will allow users to navigate and interact with the iPhone based on strength of touch. A light touch will allow for a “peek” preview mode for photos, emails and other content, while a harder touch will jump into the content itself.

Another new innovation for the device is Live Photos, a 12-megapixel photo that also records the moments immediately before and after the shot was taken.

Video can now be recorded in 4K and image stabilization functions have been expanded to video on the iPhone 6S Plus model.

On the hardware front, the iPhone 6S and 6 Plus use the A9 64-bit chip, which promises a 70% faster CPU and 90% faster GPU than the A8, as well as energy efficiency gains to improve battery life.

The iPhone 6 and 6S will launch in China, Hong Kong, Singapore. Australia, New Zealand and key North American and European markets on September 25. Apple will start taking pre-orders on Saturday.
