Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN) announced today it will modernize its network using Genband’s Genius all-IP platform. Genband will migrate the telco’s TDM and first-generation VoIP switches, as well as first-generation SIP servers to the Genius-powered IP solution, enabling HKBN to offer advanced business and residential multimedia communications capabilities across the region.

“Genband offers us the most flexible software platform and commercial solutions necessary to rapidly deliver world-class IP capabilities, reduce operating costs and enhance our unified multimedia communications,” said HKBN CTO Lo Sui Lun. “The upgrade will allow us to increase revenue generation opportunities across both residential and business customers while reducing equipment floor space and power consumption by 95%. Through interconnections enabled at the IP level by Genband’s Intelligent S3 SBC, we will also enhance our support for the IDD market.”

HKBN’s fiber service in Hong Kong reaches almost two million residential homes and 1,700 commercial buildings, with services including 100-Mbps to 1-Gbps broadband access, telephony and IPTV.

Mark Pugerude, Genband’s president of global sales and marketing, said the Genius platform will enable HKBN to seamlessly integrate a host of services, such as delivering advanced unified communications and multimedia capabilities.
