TrueMove has earmarked 2.3 billion baht ($735 million) for network expansion next year.

Of this, 1.5 billion baht will be to expand its 3G network from the current 65% coverage to 95%, with a hope of reaching 4 million users, from its current base of 700,000-800,000, according to CEO Supachai Chearavanont.

Data is expected to grow at 26% with voice still growing at 3%.

Chearavanont also said that True will bid for new 2.1 GHz 3G licences in 2012, as well as prepare to offer LTE on both 1800-MHz and 2300-MHz trial licences.

True’s 2G concession ends in 2013. If no clarity is forthcoming as to licensing and renewal, TrueMove will migrate its customers to TrueMove H (the 3G network).

The CEO expressed confidence that the controversial TrueMove H deal would clear all the legal challenges that have been thrown at it.
