Current two-time strawweight champion Zhang Weili of China defends her 115-pound title for the third time when she takes on the challenge of TUF winner and unbeaten contender Tatiana Suarez of the USA in the co-main event of UFC 312. Including reclaiming the strawweight title in late 2023, the Chinese veteran has won four straight fights. She will be up against a wrestling machine who has submitted four of her seven opponents in the UFC. The odds are even ahead of the championship fight this weekend at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. The UFC always offers fantastic results, and 312 will not be different.

The Chinese champion fought once last year, successfully defending her Strawweight gold at UFC 300 against compatriot Yan Xionan. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for the two-time champ, who lost a double-header to Rose Namajunas in 2021, losing her title and failing to reclaim it in a rematch. The 35-year-old BJJ Brown belt, born in Hebei, China, reclaimed the title in 2022 with a rear-naked choke of Carla Esparza to become champion again. Ranked at number 2 in the UFC women’s pound-for-pound standings, Weili is the first Chinese champion in UFC history. She landed the sixth most significant strike in UFC women’s Strawweight division history, and is tied with Suarez for fourth most takedowns in the 115-pound class.

The number one women’s Strawweight contender started life as a wrestler competing at the World’s and the Pan-American championships before an injury eventually led her to take up Brazilian jiu-jitsu and transition to MMA. The UFC women’s number ten ranked pound-for-pound fighter debuted in the UFC in 2016 in the Ultimate Fighter 23 tournament. Sporting a 6-0 record in the promotion post her TUF entry, Tatiana Suarez’s resume includes victories over Carla Esparza and Jessica Andrade.
