FIFA May Change Penalty Kick Rule

FIFA is preparing a change to the penalty kick rule, reports Bild. The proposed amendment states that if the goalkeeper saves a penalty kick, play will resume with a goal kick from the goalkeeper.

The proposal does not yet clarify how to handle situations when the ball hits the goalframe after the shot.

For this rule to take effect, it must be approved by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). The change is expected to begin next season but will not be applied at the 2026 World Cup.
