The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has officially announced the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso as the new head coach of the national team. The 47-year-old coach will be formally introduced in a press conference on Thursday, June 19.
According to preliminary media reports, Gattuso will sign a one-year contract with an option to extend it for another season.
On June 5, Gattuso left his position as head coach of the Croatian club Hajduk. Throughout his career, he has also managed Marseille, Valencia, Napoli, and AC Milan, among others. After the completion of two matches in the World Cup 2026 qualifying round, Italy currently has three points and is sitting in third place.
Earlier in June, Luciano Spalletti vacated the head coach position for the Italy national team.
