According to Calciomercato, Cristiano Ronaldo, the forward for Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr and the Portugal national team, Champion of Europe of 2016, is contemplating a return to Sporting Lisbon, the club where he played as a youth player.
The 40-year-old veteran is reportedly unhappy with the lack of trophies at Al-Nassr and is considering the option of a comeback to the Lions. On May 11, Marca reported that Al-Nassr management had paused negotiations with Ronaldo regarding a potential contract extension, which is set to expire at the end of June 2025.
It is suggested that Ronaldo could replace Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting, who has attracted interest from several clubs in European leagues, including Atlético Madrid and Barcelona. Ronaldo is even willing to accept a pay cut for the chance to move to Lisbon.
During the 2024/2025 season, Ronaldo played 28 matches in the Saudi Pro League, scoring 23 goals and providing three assists, along with eight matches in the elite AFC Champions League where he scored eight goals. The Transfermarkt website estimates the star forward's market value at €12 million.
