Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Al-Nassr and the Portugal national team, addressed remarks made by his former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney, who previously stated that Lionel Messi of Inter Miami is a better footballer than the Portuguese star.
Ronaldo said in an interview with Piers Morgan:
No problem. I don’t agree [that Messi is the GOAT]. I don’t want to be humble. I respect him. Especially when we played, we did a lot together at Manchester United. If I see Rooney I will shake his hand and give him a hug.
The two played together at Manchester United from 2004 to 2009.
In June of this year, the 40-year-old Ronaldo signed a new contract with the Saudi club, running through the summer of 2027. So far this season, the Portuguese forward has appeared in ten matches across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing two assists.
Earlier, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim responded to Ronaldo’s sharp criticism of the “Red Devils.”
