During a meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he might revoke Boston’s rights to host games of the 2026 World Cup.
Donald Trump, quoted by The Guardian
I love the people of Boston, and I know the games are sold out. But your mayor is not good. She’s intelligent but radical left, and they’re taking over parts of Boston. If someone is doing a bad job, and I feel there’s unsafe conditions, I would call Gianni, the head of FIFA, who is phenomenal, and say let’s move it to another location. And he would do that. He wouldn’t love to do it, but he’d do it.
Boston is scheduled to host seven matches of the 2026 World Cup, including two playoff games. The tournament draw will take place on December 5 in Washington.
The current world champion is Argentina, who defeated France in the 2022 World Cup final with a score of 3–3, 4–2 on penalties. So far, 28 of the 48 participants for the 2026 World Cup have qualified, including Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, England, and others.
