Japanese UFC fighter Kai Asakura, currently competing at flyweight, announced plans to move up to the bantamweight division following two consecutive losses.
Kai Asakura on his YouTube channel
I’m going to move up a weight class, so I’m going to have to prepare properly and get my body in shape again. It might be next year or so, but I’ll definitely win my next fight. It’s not because someone told me to, but because I’ve always done things based on my own instincts. I want to win.
The former Rizin flyweight champion debuted in UFC in December 2024, losing by submission in the second round to UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja. In August 2025, he was defeated by Tim Elliott via submission in the second round. Asakura’s professional record stands at 21 wins and six losses.
