Irish mixed martial artist Charlie Ward, who competed in the middleweight division for Bellator and UFC and served as a bodyguard for former UFC champion Conor McGregor, is set to appear in court on charges of corruption involving bribery for confidential information from a police officer. This was reported by the Roscommon Herald.
Court documents reveal that on March 2, 2022, Ward and an associate allegedly extorted a gift or reward from a police officer who asked them to disclose sensitive information concerning another individual involved in a crime.
The 44-year-old Ward has had two fights under the UFC banner. In November 2016, he suffered a knockout loss to Abdul Razak Alhassan just 53 seconds into the fight, and the following July, he was knocked out by Galore Bofando in the first round. After being released from the UFC, Ward signed with Bellator, where he competed in 11 bouts, winning seven. His overall record stands at ten wins and seven losses.
