Faith Kipyegon will compete in a less common race, the 3,000m, at the Diamond League stop in Silesia, Poland this weekend. Kipyegon has seldom competed in the race, mostly choosing to either run her traditional 1500m or the 5,000m.
But, in Poland, the country where she competed for the first time internationally as a teenager, Kipyegon will hope to build up on her World Championships preparation with the mid-range between both distances she will compete in in Tokyo.
Speaking to Telecomasia.net, Kipyegon says she is looking forward to a competitive race, but is only keen on what it can offer her build up to the Worlds.
Faith Kipyegon
I am delighted to be back here in Poland because this is where I ran my first ever race, barefoot as a small girl and it brings so many memories for me. I am looking forward to compete especially in the 3,000m. Thought it has been so long because it will give me a good balance as I build up towards Tokyo. There’s not really much pressure to get a win because I am coming here to rurn a good race and measure myself up.
The world record holder will be the favourite in the race, that also has Olympic silver medalist Jessica Hull.
