Olympic champion Kostomarov agrees to have his fingers amputated

Roman Kostomarov, the 2006 Olympic champion in ice dancing, may have to undergo a new amputation of his fingers if doctors are unable to stop the progression of necrosis, according to the 112 Telegram channel.

The skater has already undergone surgery to amputate his left foot and remove dead skin tissue from his right foot. Currently, doctors are concerned about the necrosis on his hands: his fingers have turned black and disabled. The athlete's condition is considered extremely serious by doctors. It is reported that Kostomarov voluntarily agreed to the amputation of fingers in case of circulatory disorders.

The 46-year-old Kostomarov was hospitalized in serious condition on January 10 with signs of pneumonia, and two weeks later he was placed in a medically-induced coma with respiratory ventilation and ECMO. The former figure skater regained consciousness, but due to the blood supply disorder, Kostomarov developed necrosis and sepsis, which provoked the formation of gangrene on his legs.

On February 8, figure skater Oksana Domnina congratulated her husband on his birthday and asked the media not to disturb Kostomarov's relatives and friends until he recovers.
