Jannik Sinner, the world No. 1 in the ATP rankings and a three-time Grand Slam champion, spoke about his first victory after a three-month suspension for doping violations.
On May 10, the 23-year-old Sinner defeated Argentina's Mariano Navone, ranked 99th in the world, with a score of 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the Masters clay tournament in Rome. His next opponent will be Dutch player Jesper De Jong, who is ranked 93rd.
Jannik Sinner
Amazing feeling. I have waited quite long for this moment. I am very happy to be back. It's very difficult to have the right feedback when you don't have any matches. But exactly that's what I need. Now I think the best practice is the match itself.
It was previously announced on May 9 that Sinner was awarded the Golden Collar, the highest honor from the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI). The tennis player called this award one of the most significant in his career and thanked his fans for their support and energy.
