Under coach Jerome Tang, Kansas State made it back to the NCAA tournament after three seasons. They had 23 wins and nine losses record, and had an 11-7 record in the Big 12 MBB to finish third. They averaged over 75 points and their effort was carried by the duo of Markquiss Nowell and Keyontae Johnson. Nowell averaged close to eight assists per game and almost 17 points whereas Johnson averaged almost 18 points and led the rebounding effort with almost eight rebounds per game. The perimeter defense was tight for the squad and they held opposition to just 30.1% from the three-point line, marking the fifteenth-best effort in the USA college scene.

Montana State

Under coach Danny Sprinkle, Montana State made it to the NCAA tourney for the second time in a row. Montana State averaged around 74 points a game. Raequan Battle led the scoring honors, averaging more than 17 points. Montana didn’t rely much on three-point shooting, making a shade of over six per game which was beyond the 300 ranks. Montana State did a lot of damage inside and was second in terms of free throws made per game, making almost 18 a game. The team doesn’t have an orthodox Center and at 6’9” Jubrile Belo is their tallest player.

Kansas State comes in here from a tougher Conference whereas Montana State has been playing in a much lesser Conference which is why Kansas State has been favored here. It will be interesting to see how Montana will establish their inside game and what can be a daunting paint battle here. I favor Kansas State to win here and expect a lot of free throws to be shot.
