Lech Poznań vs Víkingur Reykjavík Prediction: Poland to beat Iceland, though it won't be easy

Polish Lech unexpectedly lost the first game of the third qualifying round to Icelandic Vikingur. Will the Poles be able to cope with the Icelanders in the return game? Let's pick a few bets at once. 

Lech barely wins

Polish Champion began the new season unsuccessfully. Nine matches played, the team managed to fly out of the Champions League at the hands of Qarabag (1-0, 1-5), lost the Polish SuperCup to Raków, and lost in two matches of their three in the national championship. The only success at this stage of the season is a confident victory in the previous round of the Conference League over Dinamo Batumi (5-0, 1-1).

Before the return match against Vikingur, Poznan failed to beat Zaglebie away in the Poland Ekstraklasa match, 1-1.

Vikingur lost only to Malmö

The Icelandic champion has already played seven matches in the current European campaign. Before the victory in the first game with Lech, Vikingur got past Estonian Levadia (6-1) and Inter Andorra (1-0) in the Champions League, lost to Malmö (3-3, 2-3) in the Champions League and overcame the Welsh New Saints (2-0, 0-0) in the second qualifying round of the Conference League. In seven European matches, Vikingur has only one defeat so far – against a very strong Malmö this season.

Before departing to Poland, Vikingur played an away game in the Icelandic championship, ending in a 3-3 draw with Fram. Following 15 rounds, the team takes second place in the national championship table, 8 points behind the leader, Breidablik.

At the start of the new season, Lech is facing many problems. However, the Polish champion has two out of two in home matches on the European stage so far, 1-0 in the Champions League over Qarabag and 5-0 in the Conference League over Dinamo Batumi. No matter how good Vikingur have been this campaign, Poznań must extend their winning streak in domestic European competitions. The victory is unlikely to be easy, but Lech will get it.
