Wednesday's pool of quarterfinals will open with a showdown between the Norwegian Casper Ruud and Danish Holger Rune. The guys have met three times in the last couple of years and so far Ruud hasn't lost a set. The Norwegian is, unsurprisingly, the clear favorite to win the match.

Casper has an eight-match winning streak. Before Roland Garros, Ruud won the tournament in Geneva, beating Paire, Kokkinakis, Opelka and Souza one by one. In Paris the Norwegian was stronger than Tsonga, Ruusuvuori, Sonego and Hurkacz. The match against the Pole seemed quite short despite lasting four sets. Casper made it clear from the first games that he was very determined, as evidenced by the statistics. Particularly striking was his 42/19 win/unforced error stats. For example, his opponent's stats were 46/39, which isn't bad either. Ruud won 71% of his points on first serve and 63% on second serve, on the receiving end he was 27/60, but we all know the power of the Pole's first serve. Holger Rune
As we expected, Rune put up a real fight against Tsitsipas and even managed to beat the hyped Greek in 4 sets. This is undoubtedly the biggest success of the young Dane in his career, but Holger will face an even tougher test, namely the game against Casper Ruud who is in fantastic shape. Rune won the Munich clay tournament this season, beating Alexander Zverev. Before Roland Garros 2022 the Dane played well in Lyon, where he only lost to Norrie in the semifinals. In Paris, Rune was stronger than Gaston, Laaksonen and Shapovalov besides Tsitsipas.
"Of course, I know Casper Ruud very well. He was most successful at the Masters and ATP 250 tournaments, where he won many victories. Of course, he's more experienced than me, but there's not much difference at the Majors. I don't know, maybe it's his first quarterfinal. So is it for me. Of course, we're both going to be nervous. But I - like in all matches - I'm just going to concentrate on every draw. It's going to be a long match, regardless of whether I end it in three, four, or five sets."
Head-to-head encounters
Casper and Holger have played each other three times. All three head-to-head encounters were played on clay, twice in Monte Carlo in 2021 and 2022 and in Sweden's Bastad in 2021. All matches were won by Casper Ruud without losing a single set to the Dane. Ruud won 2-0 in Monte Carlo 2022 but the match lasted more than two hours with a tie-break in the first set.
