Serbian Basketball Player Simanić Has His Kidney Removed After Injury During World Cup Game

Serbian national team forward Boriša Simanić lost a kidney after an injury sustained during the World Cup-2023 game in the Philippines against South Sudan (115:83).

In the final minutes of the group stage game, Simanić was elbowed in the kidney area by the opponents' forward Nuni Omot. Serbian national team head coach Svetislav Pešić told at a press conference that the player was bleeding heavily.

Initially, the press service of the Serbian Basketball Federation informed that Boriša had no problems with his kidney functions. However, he then underwent another surgery due to complications after the first surgery. The Balkan forward's further career is in jeopardy.

The Serbian national team made it to the quarterfinals of the World Championship, where its opponent will be the national team of Lithuania.
