Hennessey is only the third goalkeeper in history to get a red card in a World Cup match

Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey received a red card in a match against Iran (0-2) in the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar.

In the 86th minute of the match, the Welsh goalkeeper played badly on the exit, hitting Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi in the head with his knee.

According to OptaJoe, Hennessey became only the third goalkeeper in history to be sent off in a World Cup match.

The first was Italian Gianluca Pagliuca in 1994, the second was South Africa's Itumeleng Khune at the 2010 World Cup.
