Messi sets the record for the most matches in a world championship

Argentina striker Lionel Messi has set a record for the most matches played at World Cups.
 
The 35-year-old forward took to the field in the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar against the French national team. It was Messi's 26th World Cup appearance. He beat German defender Lothar Matthäus, who has played 25 games in the World Cup.
 
Messi played six matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he scored five goals and gave three assists.
