UEFA Allows Temporary Replacement For Injured Player In Club Competitions

UEFA’s official website reports that the Executive Committee approved an adjustment to the rules for men’s club competitions in the 2025-26 season, allowing a temporary replacement of no more than one starting player.

This measure can be used when a player suffers a serious injury or a prolonged illness during the group stage up to and including Matchday 6. UEFA emphasizes that the change aims to prevent an unjustified reduction in squad numbers and to protect players from excessive workload.

The group-stage opening fixtures of the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League are scheduled for September 16.

The current Champions League title holders are Paris Saint-Germain. In the final of the previous tournament PSG defeated Inter convincingly, 5-0.
