The International 2022 format

Comparing this year's competition to past editions of The International, the format will be different. The Group games will be performed in a crowd-free environment this year. Playing takes place from 15th October to 18th October during the Group Stages. Four teams from each of the two groups of the twenty teams will be eliminated.

A total of 20 teams will compete for the Aegis of Champions during the Group Stage, including 12 teams that qualified through DPC, six teams qualified via regional competitions, and two teams that will proceed from the Last Chance Qualifiers.

This year, Valve will split the twenty squads into groups of ten each, with each group playing its opponents once. The top four teams from each group advance to the Upper Bracket of the Main show, with all games being played as a BO2. Additionally, the first playoff opponent for these clubs may be chosen.

The last two squads from each group will be eliminated from the competition, while the other teams will advance to the Lower Bracket.

From October 20 to October 23, The Main Event will also take place in the Suntec Convention Centre in Singapore. The teams will have time to rest from October 24 to October 28 before travelling to the Singapore Indoor Stadium for the Finals on 28th and 29th October.

16 teams will compete in a double-elimination tournament in the Main Event. Eight of these teams will compete in the Lower Bracket, and eight will compete in the Upper Bracket. All games, with the exception of two sets of games, will be played as a BO3. The opening game in the Lower Bracket shall be a BO1, and the Grand Finals will be a standard five-match series.

Prize pool of TI 2022

In-game cosmetics, features, and participation in fantasy tournaments are all sold by Valve, with a percentage of the proceeds going to the international prize fund and the teams' own expenses. Due to this, they have been able to generate significant funds and profit greatly in the process. The Dota 2 community appears to perceive expanding the event's prize fund as both a need and a source of pride. This provides lots of incentive for the reward fund, which is always growing.

The biggest prize so far was last year's International 10 since it reached $40 million. The International 11 so far has reached $13,220,830 as per October 2022.
