On the night of June 21-22, Valve added a new treasure called the Chest of Endless Days to Dota 2. It included 13 sets, including ten regular and three rare ones. The sets range from mediocre junk to some really cool pieces. The new chest isn't sold in the game client. It can only be randomly dropped after the match. This system hasn't been available in Dota 2 for over five years. See what's inside the Chest of Endless Days in our story.
How to get the Chest of Endless Days
The Chest of Endless Days can't be bought directly. It can only be obtained randomly after participating in a game found by the matching system. This is the only way to get a new treasure chest (besides buying it on Steam). After that, the chest can be opened by buying a key for $2.49, or it can be sold on the Steam trading platform.
How to open Chest of Endless Days
After receiving the treasure chest, you need to open it. Then you will randomly receive one of the items inside. Re-opening treasure chests guarantees that new items will be dropped. That is, the items obtained last time won't drop until you have the entire treasure chest contents in your collection. This rule doesn't apply to very rare and ultra-rare items. They are dropped completely randomly and without any rules.
What's inside the Chest of Endless Days
Chest of Endless Days contains sets for 13 heroes, including Luna, Templar Assassin, Weaver, Nature's Prophet, Viper, Drow Ranger, Wraith King, Pangolier, Winter Wyvern, and Lycan, as well as a rare set for Witch Doctor, a very rare set for Hoodwink and an ultra-rare set for the kid Invoker. If the user doesn't have an alternate persona for that character, it will come with a set from Chest of Endless Days. This time the sets from Valve turned out pretty good: it has some nice pieces and even some great sets. However, it has some mediocre items as well. Let's take a closer look at each set from the Chest of Endless Days and try to review them.
The new set on Luna can't be called good, but it's not outright bad either. The hero and her pet took on burgundy hues, making the set look quite fresh. At least Luna didn't have similar outfits before, which is a good thing. However, the set itself turned out to be ugly. The horns on Luna's head make her look like a man, and the pet's face is as weird and ridiculous as possible. This makes the set look ugly, so it only gets a 4/10 rating.
Templar Assassin with the new set from Chest of Endless Days looks like a typical elf. She now has green armor on her arms and legs. Weapons also started to shimmer in shades of emerald and purple. Along with that, Templar Assassin got a demonic mask on her belt. On the whole, the new image of the hero isn't bad, but it didn't seem to suit Templar Assassin. After all, we are used to seeing this character in a completely different color scheme. 5/10
With the new set, Weaver started to look like a Nyx Assassin or a bee. The hero turned yellow, and his wings and some other parts began to shimmer in different shades of purple. It looks as odd as possible, but it's also cool. Weaver hasn't had a similar set before, so this set has every chance of being unique and in demand. 8/10.
The new set on Nature's Prophet turned out to be pretty ridiculous. It makes the hero look like a gardener with scissors in his pocket for trimming bushes. Moreover, it looks like he's about to plant a new tree in the garden. You can see that the set is made with a claim to be humorous rather than aesthetically beautiful. This is a valid approach, but it didn't work this time. 3/10.
Viper looks very creepy and even scary with the new set. His whole body is covered with bones, vertebrae are sticking out of his back, and somewhere in his belly, his internal organs are showing. But most frightening of all is his skull-like head, with exposed muscles and teeth sticking out in all directions. In addition, another (just as creepy) head grows out of this one. It's really hard to describe this set with words, but it looks really cool and unique. Viper never had a set like this before. 9/10.
But the new set on Drow Ranger is very disappointing. It looks good: a new cloak, a nice bow, and an elegant tiara on her head, but Drow Ranger has many of these sets. This set isn't even in the top ten of them. In addition, not so long ago, this hero got her arcana. There is no point in doing generic and unremarkable sets for Drow Ranger now. No one will use them anyway. 2/10.
Wraith King also has a wide variety of sets, including arcana, so it's hard to make anything decent for him. The Chest of Endless Days has only partially pulled it off. The unusual details for the Wraith King are a helmet that only covers half of his face and a giant scythe as a weapon. The set was not bad but rather average. 5/10.
Pangolier still can't get an original set. They all look like one another. Unfortunately, the set from the Chest of Endless Days was no exception. The hero is just dressed up in a colorful suit of a different shade. It looks boring and mediocre. 2/10.
The new Winter Wyvern set looks good. The hero has changed his color from light blue to deep blue. And it seems like Winter Wyvern's model is completely revamped because of the changed elements: horns, helmet, tail, and wings. This makes you want to play the hero with the new set, which is a big plus. However, there is nothing supernatural about this set. It's just good. 6/10.
Nine out of ten sets on Lycan turn out terrible, and this one was no exception. The designers keep trying to turn him into a wolf, but there have been too many such variations. And they all look an awful lot like each other. With the set from the Chest of Endless Days, Lycan also got a wolf's head but kept a human body. There are no new, unusual details to grab the eye either. So we can say that the set is frankly bad. 1/10.
The Witch Doctor set from the Chest of Endless Days is rare and looks very cool. This is the first badass set for this character in a very long time. The hero got a new face mask, which gives the character a new look. It's hard to describe, and you just have to see it. It may not be the best Witch Doctor set, but it deserves attention. It's a shame that this character is now completely out of favor both in matchmaking and on the professional scene. 8/10
Hoodwink appeared in Dota 2 only recently, so she doesn't have many sets yet. That said, they are all very similar to each other. The set on Hoodwink from the Chest of Endless Days is unique, but it doesn't look the best. The hero is dressed in a bird costume with a big beak, and she is holding a giant crossbow with an unusual aim in her hands. These are all the changes of Hoodwink with the new set, although it is very rare and should fit this parameter. The set is not bad, but not the best. 6/10.
The Invoker set from the Chest of Endless Days treasure is ultra-rare, and it lives up to the name. Of course, this set's main advantage is that anyone who gets it can get the base Kid Invoker persona for free, which is extremely hard to get right now. But only because the player didn't already have that persona. If they did have one, they will only get the Kid Invoker set when they get the set.
The Invoker looks like a king from the Middle Ages with the new set. His outfit is made in red and gold. A large cross on his chest and a small crown shines on his head. Together with that, the Invoker got a very funny twirling mustache and a lush hairdo. And each of the three spheres turned into faces, expressing different emotions. The set clearly turned out good, and it will often be seen in Dota 2. 9/10.
Another call to arms
Along with releasing the new treasure, Valve announced the start of its annual Dota 2 hero sets contest. Like before, the best works will become part of the new seasonal treasure at the end of the event. To enter the contest, you'll need to publish your work in the Steam Workshop, tagging it with Summer 2022. The company noted that soon it would be possible to post sets for Marci and Primal Beast. Contest entries will be accepted until October 24 at 6:59 GMT.
