In recent times, Maxim magazine covers have been graced by figure skaters. At first, we were pleasantly surprised by Liza Tuktamysheva, now by Zhenya Medvedeva. The World Champion will appear in the April 1 issue.
At the photoshoot, Medvedev appeared in underwear. According to the skater, the idea to pose for Maxim magazine came to her at the end of last year. Curiously, one of Zhenya's photos was taken topless in the pool.
“The idea to pose for Maxim magazine appeared at the end of last year, and we implemented the project right after the New Year. I’m glad that the long-awaited photoshoot is ready! And thanks to the guys from Maxim for such an interesting experiment,” Zhenya said after the photoshoot.
In anticipation of the issue release and new photos, let's get acquainted with the star of the April issue of Maxim, two-time Olympic silver medalist and beauty Zhenya Medvedeva.
Career start
The girl was born on November 19, 1999, in Moscow. In the past, Zhenya's mother was engaged in figure skating. The future champion started skating at the age of 3.5. At first, the girl studied with Lyubov Yakovleva at CSKA, and when she retired, from 2006 she began to train in the group of Elena Selivanova.
In 2007, Medvedeva's parents made a fateful decision in their daughter's career - to transfer her to Eteri Tutberidze's group. Since then, the skater has been one hundred percent focused on sports. Hard work has delivered benefits.
Already in the 2013-2014 season, the skater went to international junior competitions. Medvedeva's debut took place in Latvia at the Grand Prix stage, where she took first place.
The next season, Zhenya achieved access success. First, she won two stages of the Grand Prix in Barcelona among juniors. Then in Tallinn, in a difficult fight the figure skater was able to take the "gold".
She won two World Championships and two Olympic silver
In the fall of 2015, Medvedev reached a new level - adult figure skating. It took the athlete only a year to capture gold at the European Championships in Bratislava. This was followed by the World Championship in Boston, where Zhenya climbed to the top step of the podium with a record 150.10 points.
In 2017, Medvedev continued to conquer the world of figure skating. Tutberidze’s student won gold of the European Championship in the Czech Republic, as well as the "gold" of the World Championship in Finland.
At the beginning of 2018, the skater had a serious competitor - Alina Zagitova. At the European Championships in Moscow, Zhenya made several mistakes during the free skating and took only silver. Perhaps this was facilitated by the injury suffered by Medvedeva on the eve of the competition.
The most significant achievement of Zhenya's career was the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang. In the short program, she broke the world record, thereby helping the Russian team win silver.
Before the Olympic Games, Medvedev was the main contender for gold in singles figure skating. In the short program, the figure skater broke her own world record, gaining 81.61 points. However, having shown a more complex program, Alina Zagitova broke Zhenya's record. As a result, Medvedeva became the second, losing a little more than a point to Zagitova. For the figure skater, the Olympic “silver” was akin to a defeat, after which she left Tutberidze for Brian Orser. But she wasn’t able to return to victories, and the bronze of the 2019 World Cup was the last big award for Zhenya.
What does she do in her free time?
Zhenya is a versatile person. She loves drawing and has repeatedly admitted that she could become a good makeup artist. But the main hobby of the skater is anime. Her favorite character is Sailor Moon, in the image of which she has repeatedly performed.
For vacation, the athlete most often chooses active holidays in Asia. Zhenya's favorite countries are Japan, China, Vietnam and Cambodia.
At 22, Medvedeva is not only a figure skater but also a businesswoman. At the end of 2019, she announced the launch of her online merchandise store under the Evgenia Medvedeva brand. The basic design of clothes was completely created by the skater.
Zhenya looks fantastic in the frame and brightly showed herself in the Ledoviy Period project, paired with the popular tiktoker Danya Milokhin. In life after sports, Medvedeva is highly competitive with Zagitova.
